Homeschooling & Deschooling

A new blog dedicated to the efforts of co-operative learning initiatives by families and learners from my hometown can now be subscribed to at

Am I a homeschooling advocate? Do I categorize myself as a Homeschooling Parent? Do I think homeschooling is the way to go? Am I against egalitarian, state-funded education?

I think a reading of all my blogs on this site would answer those questions but in short :

1. I respect the choice of parents who believe in state-funded public education but I also support the choices of parents who feel that they need to do the right thing by not putting their children through the same **** they went through.  In the end, it’s about Freedom and freedom means getting to make choices and not be judged for them.

2. I do not advocate homeschooling for everyone; one man’s meat is another man’s poison. Above all, the idea of homeshooling is not about some commercial trend or ideological revolution (well, if it turned out to be it is merely incidental).

3. Until there is a viable alternative to Education and Learning suited for the 21st Century I cannot continue a charade that “all is fine with our schooling systems, I grew up fine under it”. As such, after 2 years of blogging on these issues a local community-based grassroots effort is now being galvanized on the ground under 21st Century Penang Learning Community.

These 2 quotes below sum up my feelings about 20th Century Compulsory state-education, why I homeschool and my hopes for 21st Century Education.

‎”It is no measure of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society” ~
J Krishnamurti.

“You never change things by fighting the existing reality. To change something, build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete.”—Buckminster Fuller

  1. I like the quote about a new model and hope your homeschooling is a resounding success.
